Is there a Mac software interface that will facilitate simply writing to and retrieving from Glacier? I would like to copy files to Glacier and then delete these files from my local drive (i.e., have them exist only on Glacier until I need them). I've been using ARQ to copy files to Glacier, but if I understand correctly (from ARQ's developer) ARQ 'mirrors' files, i.e., if you delete a file on the local drive the file will also be deleted on Glacier.

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Hi, I really need an answer to this too! I've been using iProtectMac software from Jaegasoft, to back up to AWS & Glacier. The backup to AWS is working as expected, but the backup to Glacier is not!
The whole idea of my backup to Glacier for me, was to have the files still on the Glacier even if I deleted them from the hard drive. It took months (and money!) to upload them all and only now have I found out that if I delete a file from my hard drive that it is also deleted from the Glacier! This is not what I was led to believe before I started.
Anyone got any ideas, as I now realise that there is no free support from AWS and I have still had no reply from Jaegasoft despite several requests over the last fortnight. The problem with Glacier is that the index for the file location must be kept somewhere. If you us Arq or CrossFTP, you need to retain the index information to the file locally.
If you use your drive or the software, Glacier will still have the file but it's almost impossible to retrieve. I would highly recommend using S3 storage and then set the archive policy to send your files to Glacier. S3 will keep the index to the file in Glacier so everything is now in AWS. No worries if you lose you home Mac.
