Outlook Web App, S/mime Control For Chrome On Mac Rating: 9,7/10 6980 votes

When reading signed message from Outlook Web App, the reading pane (preview pane) shows the following: S/MIME isn't supported in Conversation view.

We've recently started a new project, one of the requirements was that communication with the clients must use S/MIME encrypted email. I assumed there would be a solution sat waiting in Google Apps marketplace which could magically deploy something signed by Verisign to all users for a monthly fee. Thankfully we're a tiny team and it's not a huge hassle to get set up with Thunderbird and buy certificates from Verisign. We also found a neat app called Djigzo to handle encrypted email on Android phones. But surely there's a better way of doing this?

I was hoping most of all for a Chrome extension that would allow us to sign emails in the slick webmail (Gmail) interface we all know and love. Anyone had any experience with this? Your choices depends on whether you need desktop-to-desktop encryption/signing or whether server based encryption/siging is good enough. If desktop-to-desktop protecttion is required, Postiti's solution and other gateway based solutions are out of the question since Gmail than has access to the plain unprotected email.

In that case the only solution I know of is Penango () but I'm not sure whether it's still under active development. If a gateway solution is good enough and you are willing to install a gateway you might try the DJIGZO email encryption gateway (from the same company the DJIGZO Android S/MIME app). It's free and open source.

This however requires you to setup you own gateway which you might not like since you are using Gmail. Disclaimer: I'm the CEO of DJIGZO. You could use outlook/thunderbird and create certs for this use. I do this with my google apps (same version). Of course, any emails would not be viewable on the web.

Internet booster for mac. That's actually what I've ended up doing - Mozilla Thunderbird for laptops, and Djigzo app for smartphones and tablets. I guess what I'm hoping for is someone to point out that my search engine skills are terrible and that I missed a Google Chrome extension which allows me to sign and encrypt all emails from within the web version (Gmail). Webrtc chrome extension. Hey guys, OP here.

Disclaimer: I'm the CEO of DJIGZO Exactly - I'm looking at desktop-to-desktop (or rather device-to-device) encryption / signing. I did find Penango and you're right, it's not being maintained. Is a Chrome extension / Penango rival something Djigzo might develop? Pretty please:) Btw - Android app rocks, but I think I've found a bug. Is there GetSatisfaction/UserVoice/bug tracker I should submit to?
