Hi everyone, sorry if there are any mistakes I miss, I am on my phone writing this. My MacBook Pro 2010 model crashed the other day because the hd was full, I was actually deleting stuff as it crashed ironically enough. Anyway, I haven't been able to reboot since or start in safe mode and I can only access the Disk Utility. When I'm in Disk Utility I can see all my documents on the internal drive, everything is there, but when I try to restore them to an external drive I get 'input/output error'.

I also tried to repair the disk and it told me to back up what I could. I've asked the Apple rep here (we don't have an Apple Store) if the data is able to be saved and they seem to think so, but I don't think I was talking to someone who knew a lot about it. I haven't backed up my data (I know I should have, I'm an idiot) and I'm really worried I'm going to lose everything. Is there anything I can do to save my data? The most important thing is my notes and I have no idea where they are stored in the files. Portable minecraft for mac.
Also, the external hard drive I used had a usb connection only and I was using a 550 or 600 GB partition. I was thinking of going out and getting a FireWire external drive to try and restore it to though I don't know if that will help or not. Sorry is this is a bit jumbled, I have tried to include as much information as I can. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks! Maybe I am misunderstanding your troubleshooting, but you're not able to boot into safe mode? Then from where are you accessing disk utility? Android emulator mac high sierra. Recovery mode?
And from where are you looking at your files from? USB drives are generally not supported from safe mode.
Article on safe mode and what is not supported by it. Note that FireWire is also 'limited' support. If you have another computer available you can try and boot into to try and regain the files. That is how you normally recover data on a computer that is unable to boot.
